SWEDEN part
4 - From the West Coast (Bohuslan) |
|
|
Fall in Sweden can be exceptionally beautiful when the weather is on your side, as it was during my trip over there in September, 2000. The colors started to change during those three weeks, and to me it was a true joy to have the chance to watch this phenomena in change of nature. The county Bohuslan is the "capitol" of the fishing industry of Sweden. What you will see here is a small part of some picturesque fishing villages, which are, sadly turning in to summer vacation places for people who can afford to own a summer cottage there. If you visit, make sure you get some "peel them yourself shrimps". They are the best in the world, it is claimed. /Margareta |

Among the granite cliffs of Bohuslan, the fishing villages are laying in clusters and/or climbing on the rocks by the sea Nordsjon. |

Sitting on the docks, in the sunset, having shrimps, already cooked on the fishing boat, is a wonderful treat for your pallet. Life can definitely be very enjoyable. |

Hissingsbron - The bridge that is one of the connections to the Northern part of Gothenburg. |
GOTHENBURG As most of big cities, Gothenburg has many faces. What you see to the left is the inlet to Gothenburg's harbor. This harbor is different from what you usually see. Here pleasure boats are anchored side by side with cruise liners while a new, perhaps an oil tanker is sitting in the dry-dock at the shipyard across the water. Gothenburg is divided into two parts by the Gota-river which runs thru into the manmade Gota Chanal to end up in the Baltic Sea just below Stockholm. Yes, you can go by pleasure-boat straight from here thru the countryside of Sweden to Stockholm. |

And how about downtown Gothenburg... you may ask. Well I always seem to forget my camera and bring my wallet instead. There is wonderful shopping and nice restaurants. I love to use the tram. I believe Gothenburg is the only city in Sweden which got that kind of public transportation today. There is also a sightseeing boat called Paddan which will give you a nice tour on the Gota Canal around in Gothenburg. |
