Routes for RV 2003 and 2004. For a better orientation and to explain where in the United States we have been "RV-ing" so far, I have put together these maps along with a description of the roads we took on each occasion. The images here are a bit large to make them more visible. It will take a bit longer than usual to download. RV 2003 - Starting in Sierra Vista going towards Tucson. On the way north we took a detour to Fort Apache. The night had been spent in Globe (perhaps there is a new location for the camping ground today). We were on our way to Holbrook to visit Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. After this we turned West to go to Sedona. Sedona is south of Flagstaff. On our way North to Grand Canyon we made a brief visit to Williams (Route 66). Continued then to Page to visit Antelope. From here we went to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park, both in Utah. Then turned to Cortez and Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. After the visit to Mesa Verde we returned to the border of Utah/Arizona to visit Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Going back South we drove along the border to New Mexico thru the Apache National Forest. Before returning the Motor-home in Sierra Vista, we also visited the nearby and historic Tombstone City which is located south of Benson, Arizona. For the roads we took see further down the page. |

||
| Route 2003 description: From Sierra Vista on Hwy 90 (South East of Tucson) on to I-10 back towards Tucson to continue on Hwy 77 to Holbrook on I-40 (former Rte 66 to Petrified Forest and Painted Desert). Then going West towards Flagstaff and onto scenic Hwy 89-A South for Sedona. Back North to I-40 to Grand Canyon on Hwy 64. Continued to Page on Hwy 89 (Antelope). Crossing Colorado River at Lake Powell we went from here into Utah and Zion National Park on Hwy 89 and later to Bryce Canyon National Park on Scenic Hwy 12. From Hwy 12 we continued to Hwy 24 and then South Hwy 95, once more crossing Colorado River at Lake Powell and driving thru White Canyon. (Later we stopped to take a look at Natural Bridges). Then onto Hwy 191 North to join in on Hwy 491 to Cortez for Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. Drove then to the border of Utah and Arizona to visit Monument Valley (Spent the night in Mexican Hat on Hwy 163.). To go back south we took Hwy 59 to reach Hwy 191 and drove along the border to New Mexico thru Apache National Forest all the way back to I-10. Before returning the Motor-home in Sierra Vista, we visited the nearby Tombstone City on Hwy 80. We spent three weeks on this trip. And there is so much more to see. I'm glad we didn't had the time for everything. | Tips: To be
a member of
National Parks and
KOA
will be helpful and make you some very nice savings on a trip like this. For other scenic routes an AAA-Triptik would be helpfull
And to support what we shouldn't take
for granted please visit National Parks Conservation Association Please note that Hwy:s often are the same as State Roads (S.R.). Please check the legend on your map. |

Part 1 Hoover Dam
|

RV 2004
Hoover Dam/Las Vegas, Nevada to Death Valley, California. The first
night was spent on a camp ground near Hoover Dam. After the visit to the
dam we turned West to head for Death Valley National Park. Passing
Las Vegas on I-15 and then turning onto Hwy 95 to go to Beatty, Nevada,
where we spent the night. The intention was to enter the park from the
North thru Devils Gate on Hwy 374. Now we are in California and
turning (left) South for the National Park's camping
ground and visitor's center. Leaving Death Valley going North we headed
for Hwy 190 making a left turn to go towards Yosemite National Park.
Turned right onto Hwy 136 for Hwy 395 North (Lone Pine).
To avoid ending up in "civilization" we drove thru Inyo National
Forest to take Tioga Pass to Yosemite. Which is Hwy 120 going West. There
are no camp ground for RVs inside the park. We stayed in a KOA campground at Midpines. Which was convenient
regarding the visit to Mariposa National Forest the following day.
Leaving the area we took Hwy 49 North
going towards Sonora and to visit historic Columbia State Park.
Continuing on Hwy 49 going towards Sacramento. We took
off at San Andreas to go to Rio Vista on Hwy 12. From here we
continued on Hwy 12 until junction for Hwy 29 North heading for Napa to
travel thru Napa Valley and later made a stretch for Manchester on Hwy 1
following the Pacific Coast going South to San Francisco.

| LAS VEGAS/HOOVER DAM TO SAN FRANCISCO | ||
Tips: We had been lucky to find a RV-rental company which allowed us to pick up the RV in Las Vegas and return it in San Francisco. A great service. Mostly one return the vehicle where one picked it up. For other
