"The Pink City" A most stunning
and spectacular place where
imagination creates speculation and inspiration. |

High up on the cliff is the "Obelisk Tomb". Imagine this in the ancient days, when the place flourished with caravans and people, on their way east or west. At one time, did the water reach up to the edge? |

In the Gorge: the magnificent statue and relief image of the Camel Driver. Sesame! Open... Inspiration to a fairy-tale? The picture to the right is the opening from the other side. As you can see, it is a popular place to visit. Walk through the Siq Gorge and end up with an unimaginable surprise. I wish you will have your way there one day. Nothing I can tell, nor show you, can give this place justice. |

Children were selling post cards and suddenly we heard this funny wining noise a donkey makes... Where did it come from? Our Guide tried to hold our concentration. He had so much interesting to tell us. It wasn't easy. The picture to the right shows how the water, for millions of years has cut thru the rock. The sediments are so beautiful colorful here at Petra. This is a very good example for what it means with "earth tones" |

A sample of architecture is a Piece of the Temple, Tomb or Courthouse at the "Market Place". It seems to have been a gathering place for caravans and travelers who came to replenish before continuing East or West. The pillars (Roman) tells that this part of Petra is quite a bit younger than what was suggested on my way here, now I am comparing with the Obelisk Tomb. If there were a natural disaster long before this temple was build, I can't help but sending a thought to Noah and his escape from water in the arch. Was there a dam that burst? This could have been predicted by a man like Noah. Only assumptions, but yes, this place really makes ones mind speculate or let the imagination run away with you. |

This beautiful rose was planted November 1st, 1997 by gardeners at Petra. Perhaps a greeting from Jordan to you. The hole you see in the background is filled with water during the rainy season. The same way it supported the people with water in ancient times. Some inventions are so good they never change. As so often, the time here were to short to be able to explore all that made my wildest imagination fly sky high. And is the rose still there? I really wish to be back one day, to see it all in its splendor and almost monochrome colors, at least once more. The city has inspired to one of my paintings. This with a connection to what is happening now and in our future. |
