These are samples of pictures taken during a very exiting trip to Kenya and the Shaba Game Reserve in the South. It was in November, 1997. November is part of the rainy season in Kenya, and it is when the countryside really comes alive because of the access to water. As you probably notice this visit was in the beginning of the rainy season. It was also wonderful to encounter the African tribe of Masai, warriors and their families. This proud, beautiful and slender native people in their red garments. Red is their favorite color. While visiting their "nomad" village they showed us, the tourists, some of their traditions. Quite a few people in Africa are Nomads. This means that the tribes are moving around to be able to be where there is water for them selves and their cattle. I noticed that the best in modern life might not be found in the "civilization". These people seem so happy with what they got in spite of a very hard life. See pictures on page 3. Photo conditions varied with difference in light and weather and depending on what time of the day it was. The scanner, computer and I, couldn't do much about some that. However, I am grateful that I was allowed to take a few pictures while they performed a few ceremonial dances. It is not always allowed. / Margareta |

Hi there! We arrived from Nairobi to our destination by plane in the later afternoon. On our way to our "camp" we encountered these magnificent giraffes. How exciting it was to encounter animals in their true habitat right away.

Young Explorers. The Elephants became very weary about our presence. It could become very dangerous to get to close to the heard.
| Zebras! Where are the Zebras? I saw quite a few. Unfortunately they were not photo-genique for the internet. I didn't manage to get the stripes right when I shrunk the pictures. | ||

On the Savannah. If you are not eating or sleeping, the animals are on their way to some where. Perhaps to their favorite water-hole. I like to apologize for the poor quality of the pictures. The time of the day and the weather conditions made it difficult to make the pictures look evenly and in sequence. Naturally we can blame the photographer "mois". Most pictures are taken at the spur of the moment. I can only imagine how much fun it must be for a professional photographer to be here for long enough time to wait for the best moments. Yes, I saw some lions, but quite hidden in the grass and shrub, there were no pictures taken.
