In November 1997 I was lucky to be able to visit Rome in Italy for the first time. This was very exciting and I didn't know what to expect. Naturally I was familiar with different views of monuments, art and buildings, but this was more an experience of atmosphere. To be right there in this ancient and big City where so much has happened, and still is, was like a dream come true. This year, when I was there, the whole City was preparing for year 2000. Houses were cleaned and some prepared for new paint or stucco. Rome were going to be full of visiting people from all over the World, wanting to be close to the Pope the day of the turn of a century. Making it a special day to remember. And naturally Rome wanted to look its best.

Up in the morning and out on the town. Depending on how much time one has, I have found that joining a tour can be very rewarding. One learn so much more from the guides, who know their Rome from inside and out and thru history. A couple of tours and then stroll off on your own with the knowledge you just got, is what I recommend.

| Fontana di Trevi. Did I throw a coin into the fountain? Oh yes! I would never risk not to come back to Rome again, so I made my wish. | |

Italian Artisans in a
modern time, seem to fit in so well among the mixture of architecture from
different times.
The "church-decorator" has moved outdoors. Since I was on a guided tour,
there was not time to take a closer look, we had to move on.
